Carrying The Cross - Pastor Barry Black at Lewisham

Last Sabbath, August 23 was a momentous day at Lewisham church. We welcomed well-known Adventist Pastor, Chaplain and Preacher, Dr Barry Black. He is currently the 62nd Chaplain of the United States Senate and was formally Chief of Chaplains in the US Navy, reaching the rank of Read Admiral.We were pleased to have him at our church and whilst with us he preached on the topic of "Carrying the Cross You Did Not Choose". This dealt with having to deal with circumstances in life that are difficult to deal with (your cross) even though you did not have a choice about them. He related having to grow up in a difficult family situation to Simon of Cyrene having to carry Jesus' cross and ultimately a Christian's having to carry the difficult 'cross' of the Christian life.We were joined by many of our brothers and sisters from neighbouring churches in London.
