From Lewisham to Athens - Vacation Bible School 2013

This school holiday will be one to remember for many children, because this was the year they went to Athens! Not the literal Athens in Greece, but going to Athens was the focus of the week-long Bible School put on by our church's Children's Ministries department.

In attendance were children from our church as well as from the local community, friends and family who wanted to attend. The hall area that the activities took place in was transformed into a place that seemed far away, with tents, sounds, smells and objects that helped to bring everyone closer to feeling like they were actually in Athens in the years of the early church, 2000 years ago.

The idea behind having the week was to give children a place where they can learn about the Bible and positive themes that they can take home and into their lives. The theme this year was 'Journey to Athens' and was about Paul's journey to that place. It centred around some of the things you would have seen, heard or experienced had you been there at the time.

Finally, last Sabbath the VBS experience ended with a presentation during Sabbath school and then an expo after the main service, when parents and other persons who attended church were able to see some of the things the children had created, look at the stalls and stands as well as sample some of the tasty food.

I'm sure you'll agree, after looking at the pictures, that the children (and even the staff) had a great time. We can't wait to see what happens next year! Well done to Amanda and the Children's Ministries Team.
